Canada Customs 2017 Trade Compliance Audit Targets

As an Importer or Exporter you are ultimately responsible for ensuring compliance with import/export laws and regulations related to your shipments and declarations made to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

CBSA manages trade compliance by performing audits either randomly or through compliance verification priorities. Specified commodities are identified for audit on a biannual basis (in January and July) and are made public by the CBSA. Certain products may be targeted for review based on tariff classification, valuations, or origins and free trade certification. The latest listing of Trade Compliance Verification targets for 2017 can be found here. We will continue to monitor and include the latest trade compliance targets under Resources.

If your company receives notification from the CBSA regarding an audit, we recommend contacting your Customs Broker immediately, as they cannot act on your behalf during an audit until you have signed a Letter of Authorization.

Further details of current Trade Compliance Verifications may be found on CBSA’s website.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding audits or would like more information regarding your import/export requirements, please contact us.
