Retaliatory Surtax Exemptions on Certain US Goods July 16, 2018 Retaliatory Surtax Exemptions The Government of Canada is now accepting applications for retaliatory surtax exemptions on the United States retaliatory surtax assessed or previously paid on certain U.S. origin goods. Related post: Canada Finalizes List of Retaliatory Tariffs Instances that may qualify for the exemption include: Situations of short supply within Canada; Contractual requirements that were in place prior to May 31, 2018 that clearly stipulate U.S. steel or aluminum must be used in their products or projects; Other exceptional circumstances that could have severe adverse impacts on the Canadian economy.
